• Photographers

  JFGH is looking for a Volunteer Photographer to take photos at residential and major JFGH events and to teach interested residents basic photography skills.

  Responsibilities

  • Accompany the residents on their outings to Mears Marina, Wolf Trap, Washington, DC and other locations and take candid photos of them participating in activities
  • Attend major JFGH events and photograph residents, staff and board members
  • Retouch/edit photos as necessary
  • Help interested residents build skills in photography

  Requirements

  • Ability to take professional quality photos
  • Knowledge of and access to Adobe Photoshop or other professional quality photo editing software
  • Valid driver’s license and car/ or a way to get to the locations
  • Ability to work flexible hours (nights and weekends)
  • Familiarity with JFGH and people with disabilities a plus
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  Benefits

  Photography volunteers are given free admission JFGH events and can attend many of the activities the residents attend for free when photographing.

• Writing Tutor/Mentor

  JFGH is looking for interested writers to lead the residents in writing workshops and help them develop their creative writing skills.

   

  Opportunities are also available for writers to contribute to JFGH’s blog Out and About.

   

  Responsibilities

   

  • Plan writing a writing activity and lead a group of residents in the activity
  • Provide support for residents that need it in spelling, sentence structure and other writing support.
  • For interested blog writers
    • Attend a JFGH activity or interview a JFGH resident and write a feature for the blog.  

   

  Requirements

   

  • Interest in writing
  • Familiarity with various kinds of writing
  • Ability to teach writing styles and provide necessary support
  • Valid driver’s license and car
  • Ability to work flexible hours (nights and weekends)
  • Familiarity with JFGH and people with disabilities a plus
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• (Adapted) Yoga instructor

  JFGH is looking for interested Yoga enthusiasts to lead our residents in adapted yoga programs. The residents range in age from late 20s to early 50s and are also of varying physical abilities.

  Responsibilities

  • Lead an adapted yoga and or meditation class monthly for JFGH residents of varying abilities
  • Provide individual support and guidance as needed

  Requirements

  • Prior experience as a yoga instructor preferred
  • Availability on evenings and/or weekends
  • Familiarity with JFGH and people with disabilities a plus
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Positive attitude
  • Valid driver’s license and car

• "Let's Get Fit" Motivators

  JFGH is looking for athletes, casual joggers, dancers, Yogis, trainers, and anyone interested in leading a healthy lifestyle and helping our residents do the same.

  Responsibilities

  • Organize games and activities using movement and motivate a group of residents to join in and participate
  • Check in on your group regularly and motivate them to stay active and engaged in movement activities 

  Requirements

  • Ability to teach/assist others
  • Positive attitude
  • Paitience
  • Valid driver’s license and car
  • Availability on evenings and/or weekends
  • Familiarity with JFGH and people with disabilities a plus
  • Ability to work with a diverse population

• Art instructor/buddy

  JFGH is looking for artists in a variety of mediums to work with the residents on art activities and help them improve their skills.

  Responsibilities

  • Create a fun and creative art activity for JFGH residents of varying skills and abilities every month
  • Introduce the activity to the residents (and staff) and offer support to residents as needed

  Requirements

  • Skills in drawing, painting, pottery or other medium
  • Ability to teach/assist others in art
  • Valid driver’s license and car
  • Availability on evenings and/or weekends
  • Ability to provide art supplies or donate supplies for planned activity a plus
  • Familiarity with JFGH and people with disabilities a plus
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
